Position Summary:
-
Prepare
clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail
drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes for
engineering or manufacturing purposes, according to specified
dimensions by Computer Aided Design (CAD) system.

Uses
CAD equipment to provide support to Engineers by preparing
routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches,
& diagrams.
-
Details
to include all views and dimensions necessary for
manufacture.
-
Makes
simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to
Engineers or Supervisor.
-
Solid
understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with
Engineering terminology.
-
Mechanical
aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical
calculations.
Essential Job Functions:
-
Work
directly with design engineers to produce drawings from
sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images.
-
Work
closely with all departments in the plant to ensure that the
drawings convey the correct information and are error free.
-
Work
from customer drawings, company drawings, Government drawings,
or specifications.
-
Design
parts based on written and verbal descriptions from design
engineers.
-
Use
the AEC drawing standards as guidelines.
-
Make
final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimensions of
parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another,
and relation of various parts to whole structure of project.
-
Make
all adjustments or changes as directed by engineer.
-
Draw
charts for representation of statistical data or purchasing
data as specified by engineer.
-
Draw
finished designs from engineer’s sketches or from other
engineering documentation.
-
Utilize
knowledge of various drafting packages and software to
complete drawings.
-
Visually
compare design of component, or other equipment with drawing
of parts, matching coordinating points for accuracy of fit.
-
Note
corrections or questions on drawings in green marker for
discussion with engineer responsible for drawing.
-
Record
drafting progress by highlighting drawn portions of sketch
with yellow highlighter as you draft.
-
Record
all changes and resubmit to engineer in charge of project.
-
Make
copy of original drawing for engineer.
-
Make
original drawing in title block area using a yellow
highlighter before returning same to engineer.
-
Maintain
and continually improve technical and professional abilities
described above as well as those required to perform tasks
assigned to you.
Other Responsibilities:

Perform
other work-related duties as assigned.

Work
as a member of a design team, cooperating with the team leader
and with AEC management in an effective manner to perform
engineering work of a high quality, with no errors.

Work
in a productive manner. While on company time, do not conduct
personal business or business not related to AEC’s primary
business, unless specifically approved by the supervisor.

Take
care to produce work which is right the first time.
-
Be
aware of budget and schedule constraints on all work executed
for AEC. Make every effort to complete assignment on time and
on schedule.
-
Treat
all AEC information and customer information in a confidential
manner.
-
Understand
and abide by office policies and procedures.
-
Inform
supervisor of problems or issues which affect the companies’
ability to meet customer requirements.
-
Understand
and efficiently use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word,
Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Visio.
-
Maintain
and continually improve technical and professional abilities
described above and required to perform assigned tasks.

Never
say or imply anything to a vendor or a customer which could
commit AEC to supply services or products or to purchase
services or products.
-
Never
discuss project cost, project invoicing, contract status,
changes in the Scope of Supply of work with any customer,
vendor, or other person not associated with AEC.
-
Avoid
any discussion concerning customers, projects, contracts,
finances, costs, or proposals with persons not associated with
AEC.
-
Avoid
any discussion concerning personal behavior or circumstances
of customers, other AEC employees, or vendors with persons not
associated with AEC.
-
Promptly
inform AEC management of any change in customer status or any
information on customer business which may affect AEC’s
relationship with the customer or with work in progress.
-
Avoid
arguments with customers or vendors.
-
Develop
and maintain good working relationships with AEC customers.

AEC employees must:

Memorize,
learn, and understand AEC Quality Policy.

Uphold
AEC Quality Policy.

Understand
and uphold the AEC ISO requirements
-
Understand
AEC’s ISO structure and purpose.
-
Participate
in formal and informal policy audits to help AEC maintain ISO
certification.

Become
familiar with the AEC Procedures and Practice Manual.
Employee should refer to this manual any time a question about
procedure comes up.

Perform
process audits as requested.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
-
Associate
of Arts Degree in Engineering, Drafting, Design, Graphic Arts,
or related field or;
-
Two
years drafting experience.
-
Strong
written, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability
to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,
oral, diagram, or schedule form.
-
Ability
to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and
statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid
geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as
fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical
situations.

Ability to use related
equipment and hardware such as Computer Aided Design (CAD)
system (Solidworks software & AutoDesk software), Visio,
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Windows 95 or
higher.
