Electrical Shop Job Description

Position Summary

  • Assemble, modify, test, and adjust prototype or custom electronic parts, systems, and apparatus applying knowledge of various assembly techniques.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lifting of up to fifty pounds required.
  • Read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, process sheets, assembly and schematic drawings, and receive verbal instructions regarding work to be done.
  • Align and join parts, such as wires, tabs, terminals, and components onto panels, using hand and power tools, soldering iron, brazing fixture and welding head.
  • Route and lace cables.
  • Install components and parts, such as PLC, relays, sensors, instruments, panels, and other units, using power tools, hand tools, and various soldering and welding equipment and techniques.
  • Route and attach wires and connectors to form circuitry and connect assembly with power supply sources, switch panels, or junction boxes.
  • Attach hardware using rivets, screws, hand and power tools, or other methods.
  • Examine parts to insure that they are free from defects.
  • Test and operate unit for specified functioning, to locate defects, measure performance and determine need for adjustment, using ohmmeter, oscilloscope, signal generator, and other electronic test instruments.
  • Replace defective components and wiring, using hand tools and soldering iron.
  • Calibrate units according to specification.
  • Enter required information to complete records, logs, and other report forms.
  • Lower or eliminate personal rework count.
  • Practice and enforce AEC Safety Standards.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Work as a member of a design team, cooperating with the team leader and with AEC management in an effective manner to perform work of a high quality, with no errors.
  • Work in a productive manner. While on company time, do not conduct personal business or business not related to AEC’s primary business, unless specifically approved by the supervisor.
  • Take care to produce work that is right the first time.
  • Be aware of budget and schedule constraints on all work executed for AEC. Make every effort to complete assignment on time and on schedule.
  • Treat all AEC information and customer information in a confidential manner.
  • Prepare and submit reports when required to inform management of status of project work.
  • Understand and abide by office policies and procedures.
  • Inform supervisor of problems or issues, which affect the companies’ ability to meet customer requirements.
  • Maintain and continually improve technical and professional abilities described above and required to perform assigned tasks.
  • Maintain and continually improve an understanding of the current state of factory automation technology.
  • Never say or imply anything to a vendor or a customer, which could commit AEC to supply services or products or to purchase services or products.
  • Never discuss project cost, project invoicing, contract status, changes in the Scope of Supply of work with any customer, vendor, or other person not associated with AEC.
  • Avoid any discussion concerning customers, projects, contracts, finances, costs, or proposals with persons not associated with AEC.
  • Avoid any discussion concerning personal behavior or circumstances of customers, other AEC employees, or vendors with persons not associated with AEC.
  • Promptly inform AEC management of any changes in the work which will affect the schedule or budget or quality of the work.
  • Promptly inform AEC management of any change in customer status or any information on customer business that may affect AEC’s relationship with the customer or with work in progress.
  • Avoid arguments with customers and vendors.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with AEC customers and vendors.

Quality Management System (QMS) Policy and Procedures

  • Memorize, learn, and understand AEC Quality Policy.
  • Uphold the AEC ISO requirements.
  • Understand AEC’s ISO structure and purpose.
  • Participate in formal and informal policy audits to help AEC maintain ISO certification.
  • Become familiar with the AEC Procedures and Practice Manual. Employee should refer to this manual any time a question about procedure comes up.
  • Perform process audits as requested.
  • Must read, understand, and follow the AEC Shop Practice Manual.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Prior panel fabrication experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
